At our Raleigh 5-star preschool, we know how hectic and crazy the holiday season can be and with COVID-19 making a lot of our traditions challenging, this year, it’s even more important to find some joy where we can. To help you plan your month, we’re sharing some fun holiday activities for kids in Raleigh.
76th Annual Raleigh Christmas Parade
When: Saturday, November 21st, 9:30 A.M. and available online
Where: The comfort of home
Shop Local Raleigh is presenting the 76th Annual Raleigh Christmas Parade! While normally it’s rolling down Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, COVID-19 guidelines meant they had to get creative. Now, you can stream it online and watch appearances from local businesses and musical performances from Train, Meghan Trainor, American Idol contestant, Franklin Boone, and DCapella. It’s available online to stream anytime here.
When: November 27th – January 1st, 5:30 – 9:00 P.M.
Where: 5725 Fixit Shop Road, Wake Forest
Piper Lights is a family-owned project that features an incredible drive-through light display that will enthrall adults and little ones alike. Unfortunately, the candy shop and train rides are closed this year, but you can still enjoy the 7 acre light display. The drive through display is free, though donations are appreciated to help fund this annual display.
Holiday Open House and Live Nativity
When: Saturday, December 7th: 2:00 – 5:00 P.M.
Where: Lafayette Village, 8450 Honeycutt Road
Hosted by Bay Leaf Baptist Church, the holiday open house features trackless train rides, camel rides, and holiday shopping opportunities with local vendors. Also, the Live Nativity will be in place to provide a family-friendly portrayal of the meaning of Christmas.
The Jolly Raleigh Scavenger Hunt
When: December 1st through 12th: 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. daily.
Where: 12 Raleigh parks
Join Raleigh Parks this holiday and take part in their fun, festive, self-guided Jolly Raleigh Scavenger Hunt. All you have to do is register online via RecLink with the code 269771. They’ll send you an email with the scavenger hunt clues, and they will take you to 12 hidden light displays across 12 Raleigh parks.
Go in any order at your own pace and some of the locations will even have a link to a holiday surprise!
Christmas Carol Sing-a-long with the Choral Society of Durham
When: Sunday, December 20th, 4:00 – 5:30 P.M.
Where: The comfort of home
Join the Choral Society of Durham live for a Christmas Carol Sing-a-long. Online copies of the music will be provided, and you don’t have to be a great singer or know the tunes. Sign up at the link on their website and join together to sing and lift your voices in joy of the season.
Carolina Ballet’s The Nutcracker
When: December 25th, 7:00 P.M.
Where: The comfort of home on WRAL
Due to the ongoing challenges and dangers associated with indoor gatherings, a live performance of The Nutcracker from the Carolina Ballet will not be held. However, the are filming a special performance and broadcasting it through WRAL on Christmas night.
