Primary Beginnings was one of several child care centers in Wake County to receive a grant for the Farm to Child Care (F2CC) program. The Farm to Child Care program will help more than 160 preschools and child care centers in Wake County to access fresh produce from local farms for their meals and snacks.
This program was implemented to increase resources for healthy foods to child care centers. Wake County SmartStart (WCSS) will work to educate preschool teachers, child care providers, and children alike on the importance of growing and eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
Primary Beginnings will be kicking off the Farm to Child Care program starting in mid-June. Our child development team has attended several trainings related to the F2CC program and we are very excited about starting it! We will be providing the information to parents and look forward to their enthusiasm as we educate their children on growing healthy foods and why it’s important to make them part of their daily routine.
We are very excited about this program, and we are very grateful to the John Rex Endowment for the grant that has allowed us to participate. We always love new, creative ways to educate our Raleigh preschoolers and to watch them learn and develop.
More About F2CC
We serve NC grown fruits and vegetables! Farm to Child Care (F2CC) is bringing North Carolina grown fruits and vegetables into child care facilities for meals and snacks. Farm to Child Care is an extension of the Farm to School/Farm to Preschool efforts across the United States, and it is about connecting young children with local foods. This child care facility places a priority on buying NC grown produce and serving it at least three times a week.
