We love October at our Raleigh preschool! Not only is the weather changing and the cooler weather makes outdoor activities a joy, we love all the seasonal activities we can share with the kids.
Of course, we won’t forget that October is all about Halloween! To help you and your family celebrate the spooky season, we’ve rounded up some fun, free Halloween events and Fall Festivals in and around Raleigh that your kids will love.
Spellbound Square at Moore Square
Where: Moore Square at E Hargett Street and S Blount; Raleigh
When: Saturday, October 19th; 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Visit the newly renovated Moore Square as it is transformed for magic and mayhem at Spellbound Square! You’ll see magicians and mysterious creatures, create Halloween crafts, and decorate your own pumpkin! With vendors, family-friendly stage shows, and even a costume contest and parade, toddlers and preschoolers will have as much fun as older kids!
Falling for Local at Dorthea Dix Park
Where: Dix Park, 2105 Umstead Drive, Raleigh
When: Saturday, October 19th, 11:00 am. – 5:00 p.m.
With a Shop Local market, lots of live music, and food trucks, there’s plenty to keep adults entertained at the Falling for Local event. However, kids will love the hay rides, Kids Zone featuring games and activities, and free pumpkins to take home and decorate!
Cary’s Great Pumpkin Carve
Where: Downtown Park
When: Saturday, October 26th, 2:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Perfect for all ages, the Great Pumpkin Carve features activities, a pumpkin patch, and carving stations where you can create your perfect pumpkin! There will also be screenings of Halloween TV specials, including “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” and other fun events that even the youngest visitors will enjoy!
Halloween Events At Raleigh Community Centers
In addition to all the individual events and activities, many of the local community centers are hosting free events. Here is a list that can help you plan.
Fall Festival at Method Park
Where: Method Community Center; 514 Method Road, Raleigh
When: Friday, October 18th; 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Geared towards kids ages 6-11, the Fall Festival at Method Park will offer carnival games, video games, lots of music, and even healthy (and tasty!) treat bags.
Wake Forest Halloween Spooktacular
Where: Joyner Park Community Center; 701 Harris Road, Wake Forest
When: Thursday, October 24th; 4:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Visit the Joyner Park Community Center for their annual Spooktacular! Kids who are 12 and under can take part in plenty of games and activities, a photo booth, and even a Cupcake Walk. Kids can also get a free pumpkin to take home and decorate while supplies last.
Boo Mash at Abbots Creek
Where: Abbots Creek Community Center; 9950 Durant Road, Raleigh
When: Friday, October 25th; 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Enjoy trunk-or-treating, lots of fun games, and walk through a Spooky Bus that even toddlers and preschoolers will love (there are scary and non-scary versions available!).
Spooktacular at Green Road
Where: Green Road Community Center; 4201 Green Road, Raleigh
When: Monday, October 28; 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Perfect for kids 10 and under, there will be plenty of activities and games.
Chavis Fall Festival
Where: Chavis Community Center; 505 Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, Raleigh
When: Thursday, October 24th; 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Celebrate fall with a fun evening of games and activities with prizes, plus there will be candy and light refreshments available!
Halloween Events for Kids with Special Needs
For children with special needs, Halloween events can be a bit overwhelming. If you’d like an event that’s specifically geared toward people with disabilities or sensory needs, check out one of these fun events!
Where: Southwest Regional Library; 3605 Shannon Road, Durham
When: Friday, October 25th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 26th, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.; Monday: October 28th, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Can you find your way out of the Library Labyrinth? This indoor event is a fun experience that can be customized with brighter or dimmer lights, softer or louder music, and more time if needed to have a fun time for everyone!
Marbles Kids’ Museum Spooktacular
Where: Marbles Kids’ Museum; 201 East Hargett Street, Raleigh
When: Tuesday, October 29th, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
This is an exclusive event for kids with disabilities and their families to have a fun time in a calmer, quieter environment. At the Marbles Spooktacular, dress up in your costume, explore spooky science, and create your own creatures. Plus, at 7:00 p.m., there will be a lights up/sound down screening of The Gruffalo!
