Raleigh preschool halloween ideasWe love October at our Raleigh preschool! Not only is the weather changing and the cooler weather makes outdoor activities a joy, we love all the seasonal activities we can share with the kids.

Of course, we can’t forget that October is all about Halloween and this year, we’re seeing a bit of a return to normal after COVID-19, though it’s still important to stay safe.  To help you and your family celebrate the spooky season, we’ve rounded up some fun, free Halloween events and Fall Festivals in and around Raleigh that your kids will love. 

Free & Fun Halloween Events in Raleigh for Kids

Ghoulish Gourds Scavenger Hunt

Where: Mordecai Historic Park; 1 Mimosa Street, Raleigh, NC

When: Visitor Center is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. through October. 

Family Nature Storytime

Where: Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve;  5229 Awls Haven Drive, Raleigh, NC

When: Every Sunday in October, 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. October 31st storytime will be pumpkin-themed. 

Visit the Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve each Sunday for a seasonal story and activity. On Halloween, the storytime will be all about pumpkins! While it’s a free program for preschoolers and up, online registration is required. 

Spooktacular Strolls at Wake County Libraries

Where: Wake County Libraries

When: October 24th through October 31st

Visit your local Wake County Public Library to show off your costume (not required), check out the spoooooky displays, and find your favorite Halloween themed books. Plus, kids will get fun surprises, too! 

Forest Hills Baptist Church Trunk or Treat

Where: 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, NC

When: October 24th, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Visit Forest Hills Baptist Church for their annual Trunk or Treat celebration. With lots of decorated trunks (and lots of candy!), plus fresh popcorn, bounce houses and inflatables, and even a free dinner from Wicked Links Sausage Company, this is a fun event for the whole family. 

Fall Drive-Thru at Carolina Pines

Where: 2305 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh, NC

When: October 25th, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

This free event allows you to drive through the festively decorated Carolina Pines Park and take in the different Halloween scenes. Plus there will be prizes and snacks as you drive through the picturesque park. 

Halloween Fall Festival at Laurel Hills Park

Where: Laurel Hills Park; 3808 Edwards Mill Road, Raleigh, NC

When: October 28th; 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Get your costumes and visit the Laurel Hills Community Center for the Halloween Fall Festival. There will be games, crafts, and activities in this event that’s ideal for all ages. 

Book-O-Ween with Learning Together

Where: Learning Together; 568 E Lenoir Street, Suite 204, Raleigh, NC.

When: October 29th; 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Learning Together is hosting Book-o-Ween, an outdoor event where kids can wear their costumes, take part in a costume parade, and get candy. However, the main event is getting free books courtesy of Wake Up and Read, so you don’t want to miss this event! 

Halloween Fun at Peach Road

Where: Peach Road Park; 911 Ileagnes Road, Raleigh

When: October 30th; 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Visit Peach Road Park for Halloween Fun and take part in games, crafts, and STEAM activities. There will also be a free concert from 2:30 to 3:30 by the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute who provides music students around the Triangle opportunities to play in small group ensembles.
