Step Into Spring with Fun Outdoor Activities for Raleigh Families

February 19, 2019

All of us here at our Raleigh preschool are excited that warmer weather is on the way! Not only are the kids getting a bit stir crazy from being inside more, we know we are, and we bet you are, too. Fortunately, Raleigh has a ton of fun, family-friendly events coming up along with wonderful year-round activities. To help inspire you to get out and about, we compiled a list of some of our favorite places for preschoolers, along with some fun special occasion events coming up.

Stroll Through Sarah P. Duke Gardens with Your Preschoolers

With 55 acres of flawlessly manicured and designed landscape, Duke Gardens has five miles of walking pathways to explore with your family. While the Asiatic Arboretum is breathtaking, kids will love running across the ZigZag bridge, checking out the bird viewing station and the rock garden, exploring the butterfly garden, and having their minds blown by the carnivorous plant collection. While the gardens are open from 8 a.m. until dusk, if you prefer a more guided experience, family garden walks are offered at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month.

Visit Pullen Park in Raleigh

Pullen Park has been a family favorite destination for families around Raleigh for decades! In fact, it was established in 1887, making it one of the oldest operating parks in the U.S. With lovely scenery, a preschool play space, and a sand and water play area, this is perfect for families with small children.

Pullen Park also offers several rides, including a train, historic carousel, and kiddie boats, though they do require a $1.50 ticket for each person.

Check Out Whirlikids Bookfest

McIntyre’s Books in Pittsboro is hosting their 2nd Annual Whirlikids Book Festival on Saturday, March 9th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This all-day event is held in The Barn and is perfect for young book lovers. The book festival features author readings, panels, and signings with over a dozen authors including Bea Birdsong, Jonathan Voss, Sarah Mlynowski, and Nick Bruel. With crafts, face painting, storytime, and a meet and greet with both Daniel Tiger and Mother Bruce the Bear, this will be a day to remember for you and your preschooler.
