Regardless of what age childhood obesity really begins, it’s never too early to instill healthy…
- Regular Dental Visits. Tell your children why you go to the dentist and get your teeth cleaned. Explain that visits occur twice a year and are important for maintaining healthy, pearly white teeth. Starting dental visits early will ensure that children continue to visit their dentist, even when they get older.
- Good Dental Habits. Set a brushing and flossing date for your children. This designated time will reinforce that they should be brushing and flossing at least twice a day. This will also allow you to be with them while they are taking care of their teeth, making sure they brush for the recommended two minutes and floss afterwards.
- Eat Healthy Foods. Diet plays a large role in maintaining healthy teeth. Eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and calcium rich foods will protect tooth enamel and provide energy and nutrients for children’s growing bodies. Limit the amount of sugary substances, such as sodas, juices, candy and chips, to keep the teeth from developing cavities.
